Autumn has firmly rooted its passage into the grim few months of winter we all find so depressing. I like autumn though. The colours of the leaves are fantastic, lots of deep reds, oranges and yellows set against low sunlit blue skies. Sunsets are spectacular this time of year too, although most of us are usually still in work and miss them.
Happy New Year!! 2012 was an absolutely mental year for me. As well as having a little bouncing baby boy, we decided to move house too, just 2 weeks before christmas – although not quite our choice due to the whole buying process.I don’t recommend it, no, don’t try it… especially with a 6 month old baby…. and a cat….
Phew!! It’s been hot this week hasn’t it?!! I love the sun, it makes everyone happy. Everything seems to calm down and relax a little and people seem to be friendlier. That is until they get to work and have to sit for 8 hours in a sweaty grumpy office where people fight over windows and fans, hoping that management will fork out for an air conditioning system. In my office its the complete opposite. We have a massive air conditioning…
This image is a play on the idea that everyone has a dark side whether they like it or not, and along with your good side together they make up your personality. If everyone was nice all the time and just went along with what everyone else said and did then the world would be a very boring place.
Maybe your darker side, or your demons, are the competitive, ruthless or creative side…
So now we are waving goodbye to another awful summer, creeping into autumn and looking forward to cold feet and not being able to afford to put our heating on this winter. So with all this optimism, I have produced this lovely illustration inspired by The Smiths song ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’. I’m sure the song conveys different emotions to different people, also depending on moments in life…
This is an idea I’ve had stored away for a while but hadn’t got round to it. It’s based on the lyrics to ‘I’m dying tomorrow’ by Alkaline Trio. It’s a simple song asking ones self about ones life if one has accomplished all the things one wanted to do near the end – one too many ones there one thinks. It sounds quite grim but has a positive spin on the subject…
This illustration titled {Time Is Our Biggest Enemy} was inspired by the lack of time I seem to have these days, I suppose it can also be looked at on a much grander scale of life and human existence itself. But I genuinely believe that as we get older time seems to go quicker. I have a pile of computer games that I want to play, albums I want to listen to and a basket ball that hasn’t seen a court for a while…
This was an illustration as requested by my lovely wife Laura, inspired by the lyrics from one of her favourite songs ‘Mailbox Arson’ by Alexisonfire. I originally had two versions of this image, both shown below, but went with the fire-globe idea…
At the moment there are loads of spiders hanging around my house and they have all come from one of those fluffy cotton wool looking spider eggs that I found in my garden about a week ago. Its a fantastic sight to see them all hatching and setting off on their little adventures, their webs catching in the breeze, not know where they are going to end up or whether they will make it further…
I’m not a religious person. I like the art, imagery, statues, cathedrals, churches and the theory of it including the way it gives people hope or helps people focus on something when they don’t have anything or are in troubled times. The catholic church, kind of the Bang and Olufsen of religions, has always been a bit of a dodgy subject. And theres something not quite right about it that has always bugged me.
Jesus washed peoples feet, and lived in a shed or cave or something right? And rumour has it he was a bit of a magician. So why does the Pope live in an almost golden city with mafia like bodyguards? Hmmmm. This led me to looking up on t’internet what the Pope’s salary is and if he gets Christmas bonuses for being extra pope-like? Turns out he doesn’t have a paycheck like us regular folk. He doesn’t even need money in fact. He is almost above money. Something not right there hey?
Anyway this quick little illustration/print is what spawned from these thoughts. See you all in hell!!!

Welcome to the recently refurbished BelleTragedie.com. It’s taken a while, mainly due to me being visuals guy rather than a techie guy (DAMN YOU CSS AND WORDPRESS!!!). But I finished it at last and I’m pretty pleased with it. I decided to go for a simpler look with a style that fits the new direction in my illustration – one I hope to develop even further and define my style even more
It’s been a mental few months. And in between getting married, going on a honeymoon, celebrating a bunch of friends hitting 30 and a full time design job I haven’t had much time to concentrate on the website or blog. Somewhere amongst all that crazy stuff I managed to delete all my previous blogs, ….yeah good one. So I’ve decided to start a fresh and this is the first of the new blogs. I have some wicked awsome projects coming up over the next month or so which I’m really excited about, so hopefully I’ll keep up to date with blogs and uploading new artwork.
